THE ORIGIN: 
DESTINATION HOTEL

PG Bison holds an annual design competition that challenges young designers to explore their material selection. For 2024, the brief addressed the emerging uncertainty surrounding AI in the interior design industry. The project focused on designing a destination hotel in South Africa, drawing inspiration from AI-generated prompts. Ultimately, the brief highlighted how designers bring a natural flair and thoughtful consideration to interior spaces—qualities that AI may lack.

The concept of this projects follows the idea of roots. This was inspired by numerous aspects as the location, surroundings and personal experience. Most importantly, the Eastern Cape holds a lot of history in South Africa and was the place were a lot originated from. To emphasize this in the design, the shape of roots will be the foundation and inspiration for design decisions. Again inspired by the idea of roots, the hotel will be called The Origin linking but to our history and the location.
