BRIDGES FOR MUSIC ACADEMY

OFFICE AND COLLABORATIVE SPACE

02   /   08   /   2024

An annual Design Collaboration is held by Vega School, bringing together second- and third-year interior design students and providing them with a brief from a real-life client. The students are then placed into mixed groups and, within the span of two weeks, are required to tackle problems, solve them, and develop a final design solution, which is then presented to the client.

For 2024, the client was the Bridges for Music Academy in Langa. Looking to expand their facilities, the Bridges for Music Academy provided a brief that involved a double-storey building using shipping containers, which would provide additional office and collaboration spaces on a budget.

Our final design solution focused on a collaborative office space for staff on the first floor and a collaborative learning space for students on the ground floor. Primarily open-plan, these spaces feature modular furniture and accommodate both group and individual work settings.

Our concept was inspired by the visual representation of a heartbeat, as it drew a strong connection to the site, surrounding area, sound, and the users of the space. This concept was integrated into the final design through custom furniture pieces and a cohesive colour scheme.
